The story of the OostEke Brewers started several years ago in Eke, where a true lover of the heavier Belgian beers (Alain Senechal) decided to attempt to brew beer himself. Because alone is just alone, help was soon enlisted with a fellow beer enthusiast from Oostakker (Gert Cammerman). Hence the name OostEke Brewers.
Meanwhile, it is a hobby that ran out of hands. With two beers in the market already (the "Quadrum" and "The 5th Season"), an own single malt whiskey that is underway (but still has a long way to go), a "bourbon barrel aged" version of our saison and two other beers in the pipeline, we have our hands full.
Lately there has been (especially by beer-geeks and on beer festivals) resentment to the "beer firms". For the uninitiated, a beer company is a company that has no brewery, but it has its own beers on the market. That may be label beers (existing beers, with another label) or a result of marketing and outsourcing to other breweries. In addition, you obviously have the brewers, who make their own beers.
But somewhere in the middle there is a third kind, which I call the "brewing companies." And the OostEke Brewers is one of them. "Brew firms" are entrepreneurs who brew their own recipes themselves (usually in micro-systems), but have decided to not invest in their own brewery (yet). For brewing larger amounts of beer they work together with local brewers. We chose our brewers because of the fact that they are located in our region and for their good reputation. And we always mention their name on our labels. I don't see what is wrong with this ...And what is the most important: our products are made with love, and you can taste it!
